Le programme de recherche du LPE est en parfaite adéquation avec les priorités nationales du pays et s’inscrit parfaitement dans le cadre de la mission du centre. Les activités de recherche visent l’exploitation des connaissances dans le domaine des biotechnologies végétales pour contribuer au développement du secteur oléicole national à travers la protection et l’amélioration de l’oléiculture, l’innovation et la diversification de l’huile d’olive et la valorisation des coproduits de l’olivier.

Les plantes extrêmophiles fourragères : Caractérisation génétique, sélection variétale et amélioration des performances agronomiques sous contraintes environnementales.

objectif 1

Objectif général

Valorisation des plantes extrêmophiles pour un usage fourrager.

objectif 2

Objectifs spécifiques

(i) L'évaluation au laboratoire et au champ d'un ensemble d'accessions/lignées, appartenant à des Fabacées et des Poacées, et leurs inscriptions en tant que variétés ou obtentions végétales au catalogue national.
(ii) L'amélioration de la productivité de ces accessions/lignées fourragères retenues sous contraintes abiotiques et biotiques par le prétraitement des semences, l'utilisation de biofertilisants et des nanoparticules et les cultures en associations.
(iii) La caractérisation et la validation des marqueurs moléculaires de sélection chez les deux plantes modèles M. truncatula et B. distachyon.
(iv) L'établissement des bases de données pour les espèces extrêmophiles fourragères spontanées retenues (i.e. Medicago sp. et Brachypodium sp.).

Halophytes alimentaires : Le quinoa un nouveau modèle de culture pour l’augmentation du rendement agricole et la réhabilitation des zones marginales en Tunisie.

objectif 1

Objectif général

Valorisation des halophytes à potentialité alimentaire comme une source prometteuse de biomasse pour l’alimentation humaine d’une part et l’augmentation du rendement agricole et la réhabilitation des zones marginales en Tunisie d’autre part. Mise en place d’une chaine de valeur complète Quinoa.

objectif 2

Objectifs spécifiques

- Evaluation de la qualité nutritionnelle chez certaines halophytes à potentialité alimentaire (particulièrement Salicornia, Limonium, Asparagus, Sarcocornia, quinoa) dans leur biotopes ou cultivés en présence de certains facteurs (contraintes abiotiques, variété, organe, tissu, stade de développement, etc…).
- Etude des réponses du quinoa aux contraintes environnementales (salinité, sècheresse, déficiences minérales, etc…) en se basant sur l’analyse des aspects écophysiologiques, biochimiques et moléculaires, en vue de l’élucidation des mécanismes de la tolérance de cette espèce au stade végétatif et reproducteur avec une attention particulière qui sera accordée à l’étude de la capacité de sa phytodessalement.
- Etablir une chaine de valeur locale de quinoa, zéro-déchet, offrant des produits alimentaires sans gluten (recettes traditionnelles) et de nouvelles sources d’aliment pour le bétail. Ce travail sera effectué en partenariat avec des acteurs sociaux-économique et qui va être focalisé sur le développement des techniques et des pratiques culturales appropriées à la culture de quinoa ainsi que la mise en place des fiches techniques et la démonstration de la faisabilité technique et économique.
- Etude et suivi de la biodiversité dont le but de diagnostiquer l’état sanitaire de la culture du quinoa et l’impact des différentes pratiques culturales sur les propriétés physico-chimiques du sol et sur le microbiome de la rhizosphère. Cette étude est accompagnée par la valorisation des extraits de quinoa (feuilles, graines, huiles essentielles) pour la lutte biologique contre certains agents pathogènes. .

Étude des réponses des plantes aux polluants environnementaux : phytoremédiation et sécurité alimentaire.

objectif 1

Objectif général

Application d’approches innovantes et durables de réhabilitation d’écosystèmes pollués. Limitation de l’accumulation des polluants par les plantes comestibles.

objectif 2

Objectifs spécifiques

- Caractérisation des espèces extrêmophiles prometteuses pour la phytoremédiation des polluants. - Amélioration des potentialités de phytoremédiation des polluants via plusieurs approches biotechnologiques.
- Développement d’une nouvelle approche de bioremédiation des eaux salées et des eaux usées contaminées par les métaux lourds à travers l’exploitation du microbiome racinaire des plantes extrêmophiles.
- Caractérisation du transport des polluants (essentiellement les métaux lourds) chez les plantes.
- Étude de l’accumulation des contaminants (essentiellement les métaux lourds) dans les organes comestibles et développement de nouvelles approches visant à réduire cette accumulation.
